Vietnam is investing $620 million in a project to connect the Ho Chi Minh Road in Thanh Hoa province with National Highway 6 in Hoa Binh province.

This strategic initiative aims to create a vital link between the Nghi Son deep-water port in Thanh Hoa and the western and northwestern regions of the country.

The route will span 88.5 kilometers, traversing National Highways 217 and 47B before connecting to National Highway 6 and the future Hanoi-Hoa Binh-Son La-Dien Bien expressway.

During a recent meeting, Do Trong Hung, Secretary of the Thanh Hoa Provincial Party Committee, and Nguyen Phi Long, Secretary of the Hoa Binh Provincial Party Committee, emphasized the project's importance in promoting economic trade, tourism, agriculture, logistics, and maritime transportation between Thanh Hoa and neighboring provinces.

The new road is expected to drive economic and social development, bolster national defense, and enhance security in Thanh Hoa, Hoa Binh, and Son La provinces.

By connecting the Nghi Son deep-water port to the Ho Chi Minh Road, National Highway 6, and the Hanoi-Hoa Binh-Son La-Dien Bien expressway, the project will streamline the transportation of goods from western provinces, promoting economic cooperation with Laos.

The improved connectivity is anticipated to stimulate economic and social development along the route and attract goods from Hoa Binh and Son La to Thanh Hoa, and vice versa.

The project's goal is to complete all necessary documentation and procedures for investment approval consideration and decision-making in the third quarter of 2024.
