Huawei is proposing the development of a 5G innovation centre in Vietnam as part of the Chinese tech giant’s intention to support Vietnam’s roll out of commercialised 5G services.

The plan was unveiled by Simon Lin, senior vice president of Huawei and president of Huawei Asia-Pacific Region, in a meeting with Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Manh Hung on March 22. The minister revealed that Vietnam will commercialise 5G services nationwide later this year.

Although Vietnam is a late adopter of 5G, this can have its advantages as lessons can be learned from other countries and costs are more affordable than before.

“Huawei can aid Vietnam’s 5G commercialisation efforts through workshops and seminars to share our experiences of rolling out 5G in other markets,” said Lin.

“Our 5G innovation centre will introduce testing standards, feature lab facilities, and support workforce training and will serve as an incubator for the 5G ecosystem,” he added.

Huawei began commercialising 5G four years ago, and there are now more than 50,000 industrial applications worldwide and more than 10 million connections in industrial settings. In China, the technology is broadly applied in various fields such as manufacturing, energy, logistics, and healthcare.

5G is fundamental to the infrastructure required to develop the digital economy and 5G mobile services will be able to download at speeds that will boost data consumption and promote the development of communications and social networks.

It is expected that 5G will improve the efficiency of production and processing sectors and draw in more high-tech initiatives.
