Vietnam, Ericsson enhance cooperation in digital infrastructure
Vietnam and Ericsson will strengthen cooperation in developing digital infrastructure, applications, platforms, and promoting digital economy development.
Vietnamese Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Manh Hung and Ericsson President and CEO, Börje Ekholm on March 12 had a meeting to discuss strengthening cooperation in telecommunications, and digital transformation.
Börje Ekholm highly appreciated the efforts of the Vietnamese government in developing networks for businesses as well as implementing the national digital transformation.
The CEO emphasised the importance of cloud computing and 5G technology, expressing his desire to cooperate more closely with Vietnamese operators to maximise coverage and optimise operations of new generation networks.
Sharing about Vietnam’s 5G deployment plan, Minister Nguyen Manh Hung said that network operators will simultaneously deploy 5G network nationwide to increase network capacity and develop applications for industries, thereby developing the digital economy and increasing labour productivity.
The minister emphasised the importance of transforming from telecommunications infrastructure into digital infrastructure. Vietnamese operators are still basically telecommunications operators. Transforming into digital technology companies or digital infrastructure to develop the digital economy has not yet been achieved.
Therefore, the minister encouraged Ericsson to share experiences in building and developing digital infrastructure and developing new business models with Vietnamese network operators.
In addition, the minister also supports cooperation between Ericsson and Vietnamese universities in building more labs in Hanoi, creating conditions for students to access new and advanced technology and develop new applications.
Ericsson is the world’s leading corporation in providing telecommunications infrastructure solutions, with about 100,000 employees, doing business in more than 180 countries.
Ericsson began providing telecommunications equipment in Vietnam in 1991, opening a Representative Office in 1993. The company provides equipment to all four mobile network operators in Vietnam.
Since 2020, Ericsson has coordinated with local network operators Viettel, Vinaphone and Mobifone in 5G commercialisation testing.
