Russia, Vietnam seek broader agricultural cooperation

Those in attendance at the meeting also included representatives of the Russian Agricultural Supervision Service, as well as leaders from the Russian Ministry of Agriculture’s units.

At the meeting, the two sides hailed the results achieved recently, with the trade turnover of agriculture, forestry, fishery and seafood continuing to remain at over US$1 billion per year.

Many investment projects in the agricultural sector are being actively implemented by both sides. Besides, Ambassador Dang Minh Khoi and Deputy Minister Sergey Levin said that Vietnam and Russia still boast huge potential to further promote cooperation in this important field.

In order to further enhance Vietnam - Russia agricultural cooperation, Ambassador Dang Minh Khoi proposed many measures, including expanding the list of Vietnamese seafood enterprises allowed to export to the Russian Federation, continuing to create favorable conditions for investment projects of Vietnamese enterprises in Russia, including projects run by TH True Milk company.

For his part, Russian Deputy Minister of Agriculture Sergey Levin highly appreciated Vietnam's removal of field thistle from the plant quarantine list, creating conditions to increase Russia's wheat exports to Vietnam; agreed to continue to coordinate and expand the list of enterprises allowed to export agro-forestry-fishery products to each other's markets. He also affirmed his nation's readiness to offer optimal conditions for Vietnamese businesses’ operations in Russia.

In addition, the two sides consented to continue to discuss specific measures to ramp up agricultural cooperation at the 25th meeting of the Vietnam - Russia Intergovernmental Committee slated for this year.
