Mobile phones, electronic products rake in over US$100 bln in export turnover
Mobile phones and components, computers, electronic products and spare parts have become the two largest foreign currency earners, bringing in more than US$50 billion each as of mid-December, according to the General Department of Vietnam Customs.
In the first half of December alone, computers, electronic products and spare parts raked in a total of US$2.5 billion, raising their total export turnover since the beginning of the year to US$54.1 billion, up 2.2% year on year.
The United States was also the largest consumer of the Vietnamese products, spending US$15.2 billion on imports, up by 4.3% year on year. It was followed by China (US$11.91 billion, up by 11.8%), Hong Kong (China - US$4.78 billion, down by 11.6%).
Meanwhile, Vietnamese phone and component exports fetched US$1.79 billion in the first half of December, taking their total export turnover since the beginning of the year to US$50.28 billion, marking a decrease of 11.25% year on year.
Mainland China was Vietnam’s largest export market with a turnover of US$15.12 billion, up 0.9% compared to 2022. It was followed by the US (US$7.34 billion) and the Republic of Korea (US$3.21 billion).
With US$104.38 billion from exports as of December 15, the two groups of products accounted for 30.9% of the country’s total export turnover.
So far, total Vietnamese export value this year is estimated to have reached about US$337.61 billion, down by 5.2% over the same period last year.
