FedEx Express eyes expansion in Vietnam
The information was shared by Richard W. Smith, president and CEO of FedEx Express, in a meeting with Prime Minister Pham Minh Chi in Hanoi on June 6.
"After 30 years of presence in Vietnam, FedEx Express considers Vietnam as its major market in the Asia-Pacific, Middle East, and Africa, with 36 weekly flights to and from Vietnam," Smith said.
He was also upbeat about the outlook for Vietnam's economy and lauded its investment climate.
"FedEx Express is planning to expand its operations in the country and maintain its logistics activities at the Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City," he added.
PM Chinh recommended FedEx Express increase the number of flights and scale up its cargo transport. He called for the company's support in the development of Vietnam's airport and logistics networks. At the same time, the company is urged to expand partnerships and share expertise with Vietnamese partners in operating transport and logistics services and delivering fast delivery services in global supply chains.
The government is focused on the implementation of Long Thanh International Airport in the southern province of Dong Nai to become a regional and global transit hub. The prime minister asked Fed Express to support Vietnam during the construction of Long Thanh and expand its activities and investment at the airport.
The US is currently Vietnam's top export market, and bilateral trade has exceeded $100 billion for two years in a row.
In September 2023, Vietnam and the US upgraded their relations to a comprehensive strategic partnership, which sparked new prospects and increased impetus for collaboration in various areas. More US companies, including FedEx Express, are keen on further expansion in Vietnam to capitalise on the opportunities.
