Export opportunities driven by cross-border e-commerce
"These figures demonstrate the great potential and continuous efforts of Vietnamese businesses in leveraging digital platforms to expand international markets," according to a report by Amazon Global Selling Vietnam
Vietnam is also reportedly in the Top 10 for e-commerce growth in the world. The country's e-commerce sector was worth $20.5 billion in 2023 and is expected to reach $45 billion in 2025.
These figures were discussed at a forum on cross-border e-commerce, organised by the Vietnam E-Commerce and Digital Economy Agency (iDEA) under the Ministry of Industry and Trade on November 26.
Le Hoang Oanh, director general of iDEA, said, "E-commerce is an effective way to boost import and exports. We have heard statistics from just one e-commerce platform, but there are many others. These figures are clear evidence of the great potential and the constant efforts of Vietnamese enterprises in taking advantage of digital platforms to expand international markets."
Yap Kwong Weng, CEO of Vietnam SuperPort, believes Vietnam has many opportunities to export goods through cross-border e-commerce.
"Vietnam's trade performance is expected to grow over the next five years, fuelled by free-trade agreements, overseas funding, and public investment, which creates a positive outlook for cross-border e-commerce. Furthermore, China, the US, and South Korea are Vietnam's top trade partners, playing key roles in expanding digital trade," Weng added.
According to Liu Liang, president of the Yunnan E-Commerce Association, Vietnam's main products, including farm produce, handicrafts, apparel, and footwear, have a lot of potential in the Chinese market
"Yunnan's cross-border e-commerce platforms have already brought Vietnamese coffee beans, cashews, and dragon fruit to the dinner tables of Chinese consumers. The market share of these products will keep growing in the future as logistics and policies are optimised," said Liu.
Liu suggested creating a more comprehensive e-commerce ecosystem to encourage trade cooperation between China and Vietnam.
There were more than 50 booths participating at the event, including many booths from Vietnam and Asia. The exhibition brought opportunities for trade connections, helping domestic enterprises seek business opportunities, establish long-term cooperative relationships with international suppliers as well as logistics partners, e-commerce platforms and enterprises in the industry.
