Chinese businesses seek to ramp up imports of Vietnamese durians, agro-forestry products
Speaking to the Vietnam News Agency's resident reporter in Beijing, Li Xiapeng from the Hebei Kinghey Catering Services Company noted that Vietnam’s agro-forestry exports to China reached US$1.3 billion in the first half of 2025, up nearly 46.8% year-on-year, reflecting the market's huge demand.
With its geographical proximity, short transport time, year-round harvest season and distinctive flavor, Vietnamese durian is highly regarded for both quality and long-term growth potential, and is currently one of the most sought-after items among the country's agro-forestry products.
To boost import-export cooperation and capitalize on Vietnam’s competitive advantages, Li said both sides should improve customs clearance procedures at border gates to shorten processing time and facilitate direct business connections.
Faster clearance would help agricultural, forestry and fishery products maintain their freshness during transit, he noted, also stressing the importance of close links between Chinese and Vietnamese enterprises.
As one of China’s top 500 companies and a leading business in the catering industry, Hebei Kinghey is keen to expand cooperation with Vietnamese firms to bring more high-quality products to the Chinese market.
Other Chinese firms also view Vietnamese durians as increasingly competitive compared to those from Thailand and Malaysia.
A representative of a durian business at the Xin Fa Di market in Beijing said the fruit is highly popular among Chinese consumers and expressed hope it would continue to gain a greater share of the market.
Recent Vietnam–China trade promotion events have strongly highlighted the pungent fruit, with agreements covering quality standards, food safety, and traceability. These are seen as key for Vietnam’s durian industry to strengthen its current market share and expand in the billion-strong market.
With its inherent advantages and strong demand from China, Vietnamese durian is forecast to continue achieving success, contributing positively to the country’s agricultural export revenue.
